The Whelping Box is a place where puppies push boundaries and figure out exactly what they can get away with.
In the case of the attached video, one brother feels the other brother should quit with the snoozing and jump to his bidding. As you can see, this little dude is not successful in breaking through the thickest of milk-comas. At some point someone (a brother, a parent or me) will be correcting him and he will learn to play nice or he will have no friends.
For this moment on Day #17 it is fine to get a little pushy but it won’t be forever as I will be keeping an eye on it. This is another reason why keeping Mama with her puppies beyond the critical first 3 weeks of nursing is so important and why a competent breeder who knows when to intervene is critical. I am sorry to say but when “Canine Rescue Organizations” either place pregnant dams with well meaning but inexperienced foster homes to whelp OR choose to remove dams before the puppies are placed OR both, they are not setting rescue pups up for success.
