It’s a day off from my clinical practice so I am taking time for a great cup of coffee and a few moments to enjoy the view.
The big boys (Romeo and Lucky) have proven to be trustworthy around individual puppies when they are occasionally out of their pen for weighing and cuddles over the last three weeks. Peaches has overall been reasonably relaxed by their presence and interaction and has been a clear and fair communicator when they’ve made her a little uncomfortable. Her approach, specifically with Lucky, in the early days as he got too close to the entrance to “her area” was to softly grip his foreleg and lead him away. And with the good sense he is known for in the house, Lucky would comply. What a smart boy!
So before I take down the blinds that have been on the outside boundary of our x-pen I thought I would try some closer introductions through the x-pen.

Romeo was thrilled! To this point in his life Romeo has not been very fond of any puppies he has met, offering lots of grumpy verbiage but zero physical corrections to them. Perhaps he is happier with boy puppies than girls?? Time will tell. So far there’s mutual interest and good manners between Romeo and the puppies so I am optimistic.

Lucky’s first up close connection with his sons went just as well as Romeo’s. I am so grateful as I have grown weary of the barriers and barricades we have been living with for three weeks trying to maintain Peaches’ privacy.
