You’ll recall that we took the litter in to see osteopathic vet Dr Laura Taylor DVM (Taylor Holistic Vet) urgently back on DAY 4. That visit was motivated by the stuck puppy (Peter) and the breech puppy (Shazam) not latching and nursing as well as they should have due to neck, head and jaw pain. Today was a follow up to that for the group. Not only does it make sense to check in on them due to that history but cattle dogs play very rough! Their rough play have only escalated in the last few weeks with their growth and coordination development, but the Flying Wallendas & full body takeouts run rampant!
Everyone was pretty patient in sitting still for treatment. It always helps to have some high value cookies around when they get fidgety though. Treatments remained pretty quick as the toddlers shift very quickly. I was super happy to have all four puppies & Peaches treated within the hour and be on our way home! BTW, there wasn’t a whole bunch to treat on Peaches this time either. I think her treatment on Day 4 following her rather traumatic Whelping experience and c-section was also well timed.

Our trip into Calgary was also good travel practice as it was the boys first trip in solo crates while yesterday’s Petsmart trip was two per crate. This change might seem like no biggie, as they get ready to leave the nest they need to “do life” on their own. Their transport went awesome (completely silent trip) and being taken in to see Dr. Laura one at a time was also ideal. Puppies in a litter gain confidence from their siblings… it’s a little bit like the tipsy loudmouth picking fights at the bar because he knows his linebacker friends will back him up. So proving to each of them that they can thrive on their own builds their confidence for when I’m no longer in the picture.
I managed to grab a couple of cute videos of Lucky with his sons today. In the one he’s teaching them to tug and one of his favorite games — “Keep Away”. I love how he engages with them! He’s such a good co-parent along with his partner, Peaches. I feel like I could not have asked for a better team to raise puppies with.
